This stunning piece is fashioned from an 1840's German compass. Originally a gentleman's watch fob, this artifact has found new life as a fashion statement! The compass is for Myoshin (the creator of Mars & Valentine) a grounding force, a touchstone that keeps her centered. Any compass design from Mars & Valentine is therefore very special.
The compass measures 2" diameter. The outside diameter of the ring of white pearls through which the toggle is placed, is 1 1/4." There are 36 white pearls in the ring, 18 on each side, making the ring fully reversible. The necklace is composed of over 60 sterling silver rings of different shapes and textures, punctuated by the occasional unexpected white pearl.
The juxtaposition of the delicacy of the white pearls and the strength of the sterling silver rings creates a fascinating tension, which is one of the hallmarks of Mars & Valentine antique compass designs.
