This lovely and delicate shell cameo depicts Diana, goddess of the hunt, with her dog. This piece, housed in its original English gold frame, was carved in Italy in the mid 1800's. (Gold from this era can range anywhere from 9k to 12k). It was undoubtedly a commissioned piece, carved in Italy while the owner was on the Grand Tour, then taken to England where it was set. The cameo in its frame measures 1 3/4" long x 1 5/8" wide. The necklace is composed of beautiful sterling silver medallions, mother of pearl ovals, and faceted white topaz. The necklace length is adjustable using a choice of three toggle rings: 17 1/4, 17 7/8, and 18 3/8".
