This piece is an original fine quality European brass match safe, used by both men and women to hold matches. It was designed with a closely fitted hinged top and a striker on the bottom. This vesta was handcrafted sometime during the period when matches were first used, in this case probably between 1900 and 1910. It has been is fashioned by Mars & Valentine into a pendant with a double bale set with green tourmaline and white topaz stones. Total length is 3 3/8" long x 1 1/8" wide. Length includes the double bale. Wear with long pearls or a silver chain or both.
