This beautiful Cameo portrays Demeter, the Greek goddess of the harvest, protector of marriage and controller of the seasons. She is perhaps best known for her relationship with her daughter, Persephone, whom she rescued from Hades. Demeter created winter and spring to mourn and to celebrate Persephone's annual descent into the underworld and her return to earth. The cameo itself is 1 1/4" long x 1" wide. The total finished length, including stones and bale is 2 1/2" long x 1 1/4" wide. The cameo is beautifully embellished with 20 green tourmalines and four citrines. The sterling silver bale is set with additional green tourmalines and citrines. The necklace itself is 17 1/2" long and composed of six strands of very luminescent champagne petal pearls, green fresh water pearls, white seed pearls, and fine sterling silver chain punctuated with green tourmalines. The sterling silver lobster claw clasp is decorated with silver leaf appliques.
