This museum-quality shadowbox cameo of pre-banned ivory was produced in Italy around 1840. The detail of the stag and the lacy ornamentation surrounding it is incredible. The cameo is in its original English gold setting, which has been encased in substantial Mars & Valentine sterling silver and protected under glass. That the piece has survived intact to the present day is a testament to the great care shown to the cameo by its owners.
Mars & Valentine has created an exquisite collar of black, gray, and white drusy stones to showcase this masterpiece. Suspended beneath the pendant is a beautifully shaped drusy drop, above which glistens a champagne pearl set in sterling silver leaves with black onyx and white topaz stones. Additional carved silver-encased pearls are found on the collar.
The cameo pendant, including the drusy drop, measures 4" long x 1 3/4 " wide. The collar is adjustable from 18" to 19", which does not include the pendant. Closure is a toggle clasp, at the end of which is found a double-sided champagne pearl drop. The drusy stones measure about 7/8" to 1" and the pearls in their sterling silver setting measure about 1 1/4" in diameter.
