This stunning shell cameo was carved in Italy during the late 19th century. The subject is one of Apollo's muses--either Terpsichore, muse of music and dance, or Erato, muse of erotic poetry and song. Both muses have the lyre as their symbol. The theme of the lyre is repeated on the bail.
The taupe and ivory shades of the cameo are enhanced by the accent gemstones: pearl, carnelian, and rose quartz. The four-strand necklace is composed of pearl, carnelian, and amethyst.
The total finished size of the cameo, including the bail and gemstones, is 3 1/8" long x 1 3/4" wide.
The necklace measures 17 1/2" long and is finished in Mars & Valentine's signature sterling silver cones with leaf applique. Closure is a sterling silver lobster claw clasp.
