This rare cameo portraying Demeter was carved between 1860 and 1890. An unknown master carver produced this richly detailed piece with its rare left-facing profile. The angel skin coral used to carve this cameo probably came from the sea near Naples, Italy. This pale pink shade is one of the most valued of colors of coral. The cameo and setting are 1 3/8" long x 1 1/4" wide. The total finished length of the cameo, including stones and bale, is 4". The ivory and very delicate pink of the cameo are beautifully enhanced with pink tourmalines and a rose quartz drop. The cameo is set in sterling silver and bears the Mars & Valentine logo. The sterling silver bale is set with additional pink tourmalines. The necklace itself is 18" long and composed of three strands of pink pearls, tourmalines, and fine sterling silver chain interspersed with round pink pearls. Sterling silver cones are found at the ends of the strands. Closure is a sterling silver lobster claw clasp.
