This lovely and rare antique English compass from 1850-1880 is presented in its original 19th century mother of pearl frame and equipped with its original "slide" brass fob chain. A locket hangs from the chain, containing a photograph of a loved one. It was a treat for Mars & Valentine to find this particular compass and locket intact, in extremely good condition, and on the original chain.

The entire piece is quite remarkable.

The length of the necklace is 18 1/4"; the compass measures 1" square. The total length of the compass dangle is about 3" from the main part of the necklace to the bottom of the compass.

The necklace is asymmetrically composed, arranged with 7 extremely lustrous and very large double-sided pearls on one side, and the original brass watch fob chain on the other side. The ring through which the toggle is passed is 1" in diameter and is fashioned from 14 pearls set in sterling silver on one side and 14 white topaz stones on the other, making the ring fully reversible.
